NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

Summertime is a wonderful time to make lasting memories with your children. Reading is also very important to maintain during these months. Research shows that children who read for at least 20 minutes day perform better in school. Make lasting memories by walking, biking or driving your children to the public library.

The Cheektowaga Public Libraries offer a variety of fun and free programs for children and families.  The Reinstein Memorial Library is located at  2580 Harlem Road. Call the library at 892-8089 for more information about their upcoming programs and events. The Julia Boyer

Reinstein Library is located at 1030 Losson Road. Call the library at 668-4991 for more information about their great summer programs.

Also, local area bookstores also offer free storytelling events and book clubs. Call the bookstore to hear the schedule of summer events and activities.

I would like to suggest the following children’s authors/illustrators to read and enjoy over the summer:

Audrey Wood             Norman Bridwell

Doreen Cronin            Eric Carle

Steve Jenkins            Tedd Arnold

Dr. Seuss                    Mo Willems

Jon Scieszka              Lois Ehlert

Raffi                           Bill Martin Jr.

Margery Flacklam      Davis Adler

Pat Hutchins

LIBRARY RULES:

It is important for parents to read the books that their child brings home and make sure they are returned on the due date. Here are some tips to help you and your child.

1.  Make a special place in your home to keep our library books.

2.  Check your child's classroom monthly calendar which indicates the date of your child's Library special.

3.  Check the blue date due card in the back of the book.  The due date is the last date stamped.

4. Books can be returned to the library before the due date.

5. Most importantly, read the books with your child!!!
