Cheektowaga Central Middle School
Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities
At Cheektowaga Central Middle School we believe that a well-rounded education is imperative to the development of the young adolescent mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. Participation in extracurricular activities is an integral part of this balanced education.
These eligibility guidelines embrace the importance of both academics and extracurricular activities, while, at the same time, keeping academic achievement as a priority.
Participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege extended to all students at Cheektowaga Central Middle School. Extracurricular activities include, but are not limited to, athletics, intramurals, clubs, dances, pep rallies, activity nights, etc.
1. Any student suspended from school, internally or externally, will be ineligible to participate on the day(s) suspended. If the student is suspended from school before a weekend or holiday, the suspension will be for that day only and not extend into the weekend or holiday.
2. Any student failing or receiving an ineligible comment in two or more subjects at the 5 and 10 week point of a marking period will be declared as ineligible to participate in athletic and extracurricular activities. The students will be declared ineligible for a five-week period.
· A student would be declared ineligible to participate in such activities as sporting teams, clubs that do not have a direct curricular focus, and events, such as a dance or activity night.
3. Any student receiving 2 or more triplicate referrals during a 5 week period will be declared as ineligible to participate in athletic and extracurricular activities.
4. Ineligible students may obtain a “Temporary Return to Eligibility” form in the Counseling Center on Monday mornings. This form will enable the student to participate in school activities with weekly teacher approval.
· Students receiving 2 or more checks in the ineligible column will be deemed ineligible for the remainder of the week.
· Students attending and being productive at Homework Haven 2 times within a week will be deemed eligible for the following week.
5. Ineligible students are limited to practice and/or rehearsal participation during their ineligibility period.
6. In September, ineligibility will be determined based on the final report card from June. Students attending summer school, who pass a subject that resulted in ineligibility will no longer be ineligible. If the student passes the course for the year, he/she will not be placed on the ineligible list in June.
7. On any given day, if a child does not participate in physical education, he/she may not participate in sporting activities for that day.
