Athletes with Outstanding Performances

Week 5/17 - 5/21

Cameron Olejniczak had one of his best performances on the Track last Tuesday against track power-house Starpoint. He started out by taking 3rd in the 100 meter dash. He then went on to win the 400 hurdles with a 1:01. With very little rest he then came back in the 200 and ran a very tough race and got edged out and took second with a personal best time of :24 flat. This kept the Warriors in the meet. Cameron then only had one event rest and anchored the 4x400 relay. Cameron got the baton dead even with the other team and ran his personal best anchor leg of the year to help Cheektowaga win the relay.

Ryan Smith had 6 put outs in the field at 1st base, created a double play, hit .300, with a .423 on base percentage, and drove in 3 rbi’s for JV baseball.

Week 2/15 - 2/19

8th grader Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer became the 18th wrestler in Cheektowaga Wrestling history to earn a trip to the New York State Tournament. The States will be this Friday at the Pepsi Center in Albany NY. He will be competing in the 103 pound weight class.

Derek Clyburn had two good games this week as the JV Warriors ended their season. Derek was a solid contributor to the team this season and constantly worked to improve his game. This hard work paid off towards the end of the season as Derek started to have good games on a consistent basis.

Dave Kerling competed in the last Varsity Select meet of the year at Lancaster over break. Dave has been working very hard all year long and had a break threw meet this past Saturday in his event the 1600. Dave was able to drop 12 seconds off his personal best performance. Great Job Dave!

Week of 2/1 - 2/5

Charnaye Sanders demonstrated her leadership skills on Friday night in the game against Springville-Griffith Institute. Scoring 17 points, she had several key baskets to spark the team. Charnaye maintained her composure and remained calm though the game was very emotional. She demonstrated teamwork on the court, keeping her entire team involved in the game. Her attitude and effort reflected what a true Cheektowaga Warrior athlete should possess.

Steve Kelly had a personal best time at ECIC competitions to give him a 9th place finish out of 40 swimmers.  His performance solidified a spot in the sectional meet this week. Steve has been a strong freestyle anchor in the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays all year. His dedication to hard work has shown in his performances.

Week of 1/25 - 1/29

Cameron Olejniczak had a great day Saturday at the Varsity Select meet. Cameron posted 2 personal best times in the 55 hurdles and his 4oom run in the relay. Cameron has qualified for Sectionals in the 55m dash and the 300m run. Great job!

Mike Robinson has put together a string of good games for the Warriors. Often asked to play a different position every game, Mike has excelled in different roles for the team all season long.

Dan Torres had a solid week of practice and played well for the JV Warriors on Friday. Dan scored 15 points as the Warriors nearly knocked off division leading Maryvale.

Week of 1/19 - 1/22

Dileon Pearsall had a great week of basketball for the Warriors as he hit 3 three pointers in two games, while also displaying a tremendous work ethic on the court. Dileon’s threes sparked the Warriors comeback against East Aurora that fell just short.

Week of 1/11 - 1/15

Miguel Rodriguez-Spencer won 3 matches vs Starpoint, Lake Shore and Williamsville East as well as winning the clinching match to win over Lake Shore.

Week of 1/4 - 1/8

Demario Rhodes. He led the Warriors in two impressive wins in the division this week. On Tuesday night at Springville, Demario scored 16 points as the Warriors rolled to an 85-49 win. Friday night Demario scored a season high 22 points as the Warriors improved to 2-2 in the division with a win at Pioneer. Demario has also been a great leader and captain for the team this season.

Marissa Floyd has stepped up as a senior on the girls’ basketball team over the past weeks. She has drastically improved her play as well as her practice effort and production. She scored 5 points against Springville on Thursday and was an integral part of the team’s success on defense. Marissa’s statistics never quite depict the effort and hustle she displays on the court.

Javante Vasquez had a great week of basketball for the Warriors, while also exhibiting terrific leadership skills. Having to play point guard for the first time this season, Javante was very impressive in games against Springville and Pioneer. Against Pioneer, Javante scored a season high 13 points, including two 3 pointers.

Week of 12/1 - 12/4

Zack Szyjka, who earned his 1st Varsity win by defeating a wrestler from Amherst by a decision to earn 3 team points enroute to a Warrior victory!

Also Congratulations to Jazze Verse. As the JV team’s returning point guard, Jazzae is a leader to her inexperienced team. She had a great first week of the season with 16 points and 3 steals against Eden and 15 points and 9 steals at Lackawanna.

Week of 10/13 - 10/16

Gabe Foster had a huge performance last Friday helping the Warriors to a 3-0 win over Amherst.  Gabe had 1 goal and 1 assist giving him 4 goals and 2 assists for the season.

Miranda Reimondo is a sophomore and team captain of the girls JV soccer team.  She had an awesome game against Amherst last week.  Miranda plays strong defense but will play any position she is needed in.  She is a strong leader and is always helping the team out.  Miranda is a hard working athlete and a stellar student in the classroom.

Week of 10/5 - 10/9

Mateusz Ruszkiewicz has shown outstanding athleticism as he had over twenty saves as keeper in a game against Depew.  His skills as goalie have been invaluable to the team as they keep improving their skills throughout the season.  His leadership on the field and off as he uses communication to hold the team together helped the boys JV team achieve their first win of the season.  As one of the team captains, Mateusz has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the boys JV soccer team this season.

Alissa Kozakiewicz and Leanna Pham won their first doubles match against Maryvale on Wednesday 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Sarah Flowers has continually proven to be an impressive player on the squad even though it is her first year playing organized tennis.  While, she and her partner Eve lost the match to Clarence; they took the first set and were competitive in every set thereafter.  Sarah scored multiple winners at the net and was consistent with both her ground strokes and serving.  She is a leader on and off the court.  Her dedication to the team is tremendous.  She “cheers” on her teammates when her match is done or when she is waiting for her match to begin.

Week of 9/28 - 10/2

Nicole Webb is a sophomore on the girls JV soccer team.  She is intense on the field and in goal.  Nicki has also been called upon to help out the girls varsity team in times of need.  Without complaint, she does whatever is asked of her and she puts her heart into every bit.  Nicki is an awesome motivator and always has a positive attitude!!

Despite losing in their first match together at second doubles; Jackie Fischer and Kathryn Solecki made tremendous improvements on the court as a doubles tandem at Starpoint last week.

Week of 9/21 - 9/25

Joylyn Kovatchev had a very successful swimming meet last Friday and has been the hardest worker in the pool so far this season.  She has been dropping her breaststroke times and, when called upon to swim the 200 IM, she didn’t even bat an eyelash…she just did it.  She is one of the most dedicated individuals that Coach Nogaro has ever seen on the pool deck.

Aaron Makowski, a JV Soccer player, has shown up early and always pushed himself to become a better player daily.  He is one of the most dedicated and hard working players on the team.

Pablo Ordonez has helped his team to a 3 win and 1 tie record with 4 goals and 4 assists so far this season.
